About Kaiqi Hua
I am currently the Assistant Professor of Legal Studies and Civic Engagement, and pre-law advisor at California State University, Monterey Bay. I teach courses in law and society, political participation, social justice, religion and law, professional writing, and others. I am also an Adjunct Professor at Monterey College of Law, teaching scholarly legal writing. I advise students of different backgrounds to pursue law school, graduate school, and academic research, or other professions such as real estate agent.

I received my J.D. degree from University of Hawai'i William S. Richardson School of Law in 2022, with full ride scholarships. I was a Foundation Scholar at the East-West Center in Honolulu. My legal work experience includes internships at Washington State Attorney General's Office and Hawai'i Innocence Project. Before law school, I was a postdoc and lecturer in Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where I taught courses in Asian history, culture, and religion. I was also a professor of Religious Studies and field class leader for Semester at Sea during their Fall 2018 Voyage.

I hold a Ph.D. degree in World Cultures (Interdisciplinary Humanities) from University of California, Merced in 2016. My graduate research interests include religion, law, cross-cultural contact, social transformation, and interdisciplinary studies. Previously, I was a visiting researcher at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, Zhejiang University in China, Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University in Israel, and University of California, Berkeley. I am a native of Hangzhou, China (Marco Polo’s far east destination - where he called the "Heaven on Earth") and a globetrotter across four continents. My travel record expands from rainforests in Hawai'i to dry deserts in Wadi Rum, from metropolises in North America to small fishing villages in Ghana, and from oasis fortresses in Mongolia to hilltop castles in Austria.

Aside from legal research and teaching, I spend my time cooking, jogging, learning new languages, studying real estate, and exploring hidden locales. I hope to bridge my past expertise of religion and world culture with my new knowledge of law and real estate in order to tackle some of today's most critical and pressing issues.
